BONUS

Write a short profile on Monday's sub, Martha Pitts. Be as vividly descriptive as possible. You didn't interview her (I don't think), so concentrate on describing her based on your observations.

Martha Pitts, wearing glasses and a teal sweater, introduces herself to the class in a soft-spoken voice. She then proceeds to try and put the assignment over the projector. She could not figure it out; she asks for help with no problem. When the assignment was ready on the projector she asked the class if we knew what to do. We said yes and without hesitation she let us proceed.

Finishing up the assignment, she looked down to read word for word what assignment was next on the agenda. Martha noticed how the class was silent while she moved on from one assignment to the other. She exclaims to us that our teacher told her we were an out-going class, but I guess she did not recognize this just yet.

She put up the first presidential debate between McCain and Obama for the class to watch. Martha seems just as interested in the debate as the class.

When time to discuss the debate aloud, Martha listens with open ears to the opinions and takes everything into consideration. She never discourages a student, but also lets the class know her opinion about the debate.

"Was that our substitute teacher?" the entire class questioned. The young woman slowly opened the door, peeked in through her glasses, and looked around. She then very quickly stepped back and shut the door.

A few minutes passed and she reentered the room. Martha Pitts, she stood just a little over five feet tall, wore a blue sweater over an ocsford shirt, and pants.

Martha found herself confused as she attempted to operate the electronics. With the help of a few student she began class. Martha did her best to grab the attention of the class. However, the silence of the class suprised her, after being told by Tyler that we were an "out-going" class.

We watched a clip from the presidential debate between Obama and McCain. During this clip we were instructed to write as many observations as possible, and transform these observations into similies and medaphors, which the class discussed.

Throughout this discussion the class made their views and opinions very obvious. Most of these opinions favored McCain. She made the statement that one of the great things about this country is that people can have different views and remain civil in their political discussions. Through this exercise and class discussion it became apparent that Martha sides with Obama on many topics, and plans to vote for him in the up coming election.

The class came to an end and Martha dismissed us from the room. As we filed out she thanked us.

As the class sat wondering if the sub would even show up a young petite woman wearing glasses and a blue sweater opened the classroom door and walked in. She looked as though she was another student and not the teacher. She introduced herself as Martha and that she was our sub. At first I thought she would be shy by looking at her, but she was actually very calm and laid back.

Martha had problems with the projector which shows she is not into technology. When she got the McCain and Obama video clip going she watched along with us. When the clip was over she put us into groups to go over what we observed. Martha then took our sugestions and opinions while we tried to come up with similies for McCain and Obama. She even threw in her opinion before class time was over. She then dismissed us and we all went on with our day.

"Where's the substitute?" the English 1001 class wondered. "Maybe she forgot to come or something? a student said.

When Martha Pitts walked into the room, I thought that she was a student in our class. Stnading confidently at less than 5 feet tall, she looked very classy and put together. Her black framed glasses, plaid button down shirt, medium chocolate skin complexion, stylish skinny jeans, and black flats gave a wonderful first impression. As she struggled to turn on the projector, "We don't have this in my class room, we're old school", she giggled.

She then read to us our assignments. She encouraged the class to give our opinions and comments and she accepted and praised each of us for participating.

For example, the class had an assignment to vividly observe the McCain and Obama debate. She seemed serious and knowledgeable about the debate and our political world.

Conclusively, Martha Pitts seemed like a very organized, responsible, intelligent substitute.

Peaking into the classroom not sure if it was the right room, the petite women quickly exited the room. All of us inside were wondering if that was our teacher for the day. Hoping that it wasn't and that the sub wouldnt show up, she suddenly returned back into the room. "Hi! I'm Martha Pitts." introduceing herself to the class.

Standing very short with dark skin, black hair, and dark eyes she walked over to the projector trying to figure out how to work it. After minutes of not foguring it out, she asked Mike for some help! Once the assignment was up on the screen she began to read it to the class in her low soft-spoken voice.

Since I only got to observe her for an hour without interviewing her, she seems to be a really cool, laid back kind of person! You could tell she has some what of a funny personality and really loves doing what she does!

It was kool getting to have her as a sub!

As i entered the classroom, i noticed there were no teacher, and i thought to myself to the lady i saw prior entering the class. I thought she was a student talking to the teacher prior to this class, but i was wrong. Her name was Martha Pitts, 5'1 wearing a blue sweater over a white shirt and glasses. As she approached the desk with the computer, she seemed confused since oddly she did not have this for her class. She came off as a very nice person, and were kind of shocked to see how silent the class was. As a student finally helped her got it to work, we started off class with similies and watching a youtube video. She replayed the video three times so we can get a tighter grasp between obama, and senator mccain. She also admitted she was a supporter of Obama, and agreed that it was cool we can all be civil while voting for different nominees. As she dismissed us, i got the impression she was very nice and laid back, much like our own teacher, Tyler Smith.

As i walked into english class on monday, i was surprised to see a new face in the room. She was a petite, dark skinned women, with glasses on, and a sweater. She looked very intellecual at first impression. I soon realized she was our sub for the class that day. She started talking to us and asking us about how to work the projector. No one was very much help.

She went about trying to figure out how to operate the machine. As i observed i wondered how old she was. She looked so young to be a teacher. Mabe it was the fact that she was barely if 5 foot if that. She told our writing assignment and in the middle of doin so she realized she never introduced herself, "oh by the way my name is Martha, sorry i forgot to mention that. Im guna be your sub while tyler is out of town."

The way she talked was in a slow manner and it a little bit of sarcasim in her tone when she spoke. Not in a mean way what-so-ever, jsut in a joking kinda akward way.

She was extremely nice through out the day. No one was really talkative today due to the new face in the room so she kind of had to prie at us to get us to talk but she didnt seem to mind.

We watched a video of t he Presidental debate which we had to make comments on and share our opions with the class. She seemed open to every opinion which was giving which made her seem very open minded. She confirmed this opinion i had of her as soon as she revealed that she was for Obama while most everyones comments where in some sort of was degrating towards obama.

At the end of class she told us our assignment was to do a mini profile on her which she concluded by saying that "I dont feel that this assignment is fair so....pretent i never told you." This made me laugh and game me the impression that shes a pretty layed back girl who isnt affraid to not go by guidlines all the time.

Martha Pitts, an English TA, walked in our class wearing a blue sweater and glasses. She seemed to be technically challenged asking, "Does anyone know how to work this?" She stood in the front of the room trying to figure out how to work the projector with an unsure face. She gladly took advice from a couple of the guys on how to work the computer and projector.

After everything was situated in the class, Martha got right into the tasks at hand. She found some of the assignments out of the box which showed that this is not the way she likes to run her class.

When she started the debate against Obama and McCain and asked or our opinions, she accepted everyones answers as correct and praised everyone for their input. When certain things were being said she never argued with anyone in the class, she just shook her head and agreed. She took everyones opinion as their opinion and did not question things being said in class even if she did not agree.
