Your Favorite Band Sucks

Listen. You're embarrassing yourself. Pop your iPod ear buds out for a second. Dial the volume down.

Your favorite band is...terrible. Pure garbage.

They're worse than the smell that emanates from the Cane's dumpster on a hot day. Their sound can only be described as the melding of TV static on full blast and a constipated walrus's desperate bark.

They're lame.

Convince me that your favorite band (or singer or rapper, etc.) is awesome. Describe them (he/she/it)? Their look, their sound, when/where you listen to them. Then, if you haven't at that point, explain why I'm wrong and your favorite band is great.

styx by: Joshua Williford

Styx is simply the greatest band of all time. Their sound is unique and helped develope some of the greatest music of the 70's. Without them "Come Sail Away" on southpark simply would have not been possible, and everytime a funny movie comes on with a robot it would not be complete without "Mrs. Roboto". Their CD was the first one I ever owned, but it still remains with me on my ipod. Simply, Styx is the greatest band ever and if you disagree I will fight you.

day26
Well day26 is an African American group that sings slow songs about how to treat and love women. The rhythm of their music gets you into a groove that is a steady sound. Listening to a group that has a good harmony and sings from the soul you would love day26. Something you and your wife can listen to and romance together

I don’t think there is any artist out right now that can come close to touching Lil Wayne. Mr. Carter balances deadly lyrics with the sickest swag in the game. His versitile style can be heard on gangsta rap hits, southern hip hop, r&b, and rock. I mean, who else do you know is dominating two different genres at the same time? The messages in his songs are so powerful which is probably he’s ranked nuber thirteen in Forbes One hundred Most Influential People. The guy is a animal, a monster, or even better- a beast. Weezy F. Baby has the gangsta rock look with more tatoos than a New York train. You can “Bang” his music anywhere from the club to the court, so you can probably see why he sold a million albulms in the first weekend. Basically, the guy is the best rapper ever- even Helen Keller would say so.

The Colorado based band which is one of my favorite band all-time. The Fray debut in 2005 with How to Save a Life, which has never gotten old to me. The Fray are soft-rock dudes, who produce music that is intended to be as inoffensive to the ear as possible so that massive amounts of people can hear it in places like grocery stores and coffee shops. The Fray uses unique pop melodies and sad lyrics sung over piano and acoustic guitar hooks. The Fray produces music which is calming and soothing at times. So far The Fray is my favorite. You should listen to them or you’ll just miss out.

If you like pina coladas, non alcoholic of course, you know Jimmy Buffet does not suck.Jimmy Buffets music is all about relaxing and loving life. The smoothness and sould in his voice can make any day at the beach enjoyable. Jimmy Buffets songs range from country music to soft rock and even some tropical rock. All the beach bums would agree that Margaritaville would be nothing without down to earth music like Jimmy. Whenever you want to kick back and get away from the hetic everyday life, pop in Jimmy Buffet because it's five o'clock somewhere.

My favorite band does not suck Mr. Smith! Sugarland is an amazing country music band. They are always on pitch and the quality of their voices together are so pretty. Their harmonies are always perfect and though it is true the lead singer has a distinct "twang" to her voice she is one of a kind, original, and extremely talanted. I think you are just jealous of my wonderful taste in music!

I can honestly say that I don't have a favorite artist/band, but one artist I have listened to ever since I was 4 or 5 years old is Kirk Franklin. Growing up in the church, pretty much everything I listened to was gospel music and Kirk Franklin would have to be on my top 10 because his songs always have a great message to them and many people can relate to the struggles he may mention in his songs. And the beats and lyrics are appealing. Sometimes you may not even realize it's a gospel song playing because it may sound similar to a typical R&B or Hip Hop song; many people usually think gospel music is all about trying to say how Christians are better than others and always stressing God and religion, but it's not about that. Kirk Franklin's songs make you think beyond that. He go hard.

Celldweller doesn't suck, in fact this band is probably my favorite band because of its unique sound. Taking a unique approach to mixing styles, Celldweller meshes the electronics of drum & bass and techno, with rock and orchestral elements, into a cohesive blend entirely of its own; which, is yet another reason as to why this band is aweusome. This type of music applies to many different types of listners! Birthright is, in my opinion, their very best song. This band is motivating and inspirtional! Check them out!

Jason Aldean is by far one of the greatest country musicians ever to play in country music. He has a variety of songs from ones that will make you cry, to the sweetest songs that can make any girl smile. His music could teach all guys a lesson on how to treat a lady. He has a way of putting his feelings into his music that makes you almost feel the way he is feeling whether it is the style of life he lives or a person he feels strongly about. And yes he is a country singer which I know that many of my classmates are not a fan of but some of his music I feel can even fit into a country rock almost. Jason Aldean is an amazing country singer and for all you who do not like country you should listen to him because he just might be able to change your mind. His music can be listened to no matter what the mood or where you are. He is amazing!

I don't necessarily have a favorite band, but if I had to choose the band I listen to the most, it's anberlin. Anberlin is alternative rock and they are pretty upbeat, but can be relaxing at the same time. Their music doesn't limit them to one specific beat or tone. You never know what to expect out of an anberlin song. One song you'll get an adrenaline rush, the other song you will want to roll down the windows and just relax. It's a nice change of pace from all the other alternative mainstream bands on the radio. Although anberlin does have christian roots, they are not a christian rock band. They implement christian messages in their music which I like. I suggest you go check them out and i don't believe you'll think they'll suck anymore.

You, sir, are a liar. Galneryus is the best band of any generation. Their guitar is like the sensation of being continuously struck with lightning that comes from only the most vicious thunderstorms. Their Guitarist, Syu, is an all-star. He's played for the hit Japanese bands Valkyr, Animetal, Aushvitz, and Masaki Project. The band is like Dragonforce, except they replace unskilled speed with wicked precision and brutality. Just hear them for yourself and tell me how many guitarists you think they have. The answer's one, but when you get into it it feels like over 9000!

my favorite group to listen to is THE LONELY ISLAND. their members are ANDY SAMBERG, AKIVA SCHAFFER,and JORMA TACCONE. what they bring that i think no other group brings, besides FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS, is a comedic overload of random lyrics and beats that makes their songs sound like something that is meant to be serious. if you want to hear a group that will make u laugh until you vomit *hahahahaha!* they're what you're looking for. their debut album is INCREDIBAD.

Fort Minor is a band that combines a rock sound with rap in some the music. some of the band songs have a meaning. For example, one song is about a about a band memeber's father , who is Japanese, during the time when America was putting the Japanese in internment camps. The song lyrics
easy to understand and they our not overshadowed by the beat. The sound of band ranges rock to hip hop. Their music is easy to listen.

Keith Urban is one of the most exclusive country artists today. What so different about him? Well for starters, he is from Australia and moved to the U.S. in the early 90's. He has put out many albums with big hits such as “Days Go By”, “Raining on Sunday”, and “You Look Good In My Shirt.” His band is simply one of a kind playing a wide variety of instruments to make an easy-going sound that even someone who does not enjoy country music would appreciate. His music fits into the category of contemporary country or even country rock. He has many different kinds of songs that will accomidate any kind of mood you are in. If you've never listened to his music, I highly recommend it.

Bob Marley is flat out the shit! Through his inspirational songs, I think Bob Marley influences many people from his upbeat and positive lyrics. Not only does his unique style attract fans but his several metaphors and references to a positive life in most of his songs is what I really think attracted people. One of his most popular songs, “Don’t Worry Be Happy” is a great example of his use of such positive lyrics. The song does not tell a story, isn’t depressing, and its purpose is just to get you to relax and enjoy your life. Bob Marley’s lyrics help relieve stress during hard stressful times. He just contributes one of the most unique manner and style in reggae music. His layed back and chill style stood out among the other reggae singers at the time. Bob Marley’s true influence was through his music which served as a positive outlook on life DISREGARDING what he did in his personal life.

Asher Roth wouldn’t be considered a gangster, drug dealer, or bad a** like most rappers in the Hip-Hop world today. I believe that Lil Wayne is the "best rapper alive", but i feel like Asher is bringing something new to the game. Eminem, the only successful white rapper ever(Vanilla Ice does not count!), grew up in a trailer and had a messed up life, and that’s what he rapped about. However, Roth doesn’t have a drug dealing, messed up life background to rap about. He rocks the messy white boy hair, not trying to get tatted up and be someone he’s not. He raps about staying in college for the rest of his lfie and how he dominates beer pong. He doesn’t rap about knocking up hoes and shooting people on the streets. He went away from the typical want to be rapper white boy and made himself something new. To sum it up and show what he is all about I’m going to end this persuasion on this quote from his song,” The Lounge", My name's Asher (Hi Asher)
And those who care to ask, I tell them I'm a rapper
But I don't look like it, not one bit
I'm short and thin with some pale ass skin
Got one girlfriend, and I love her,
With two sisters, a father, and a mother
I guess I'm different, like no other
But you can't judge a book by it's cover
I write about what I feel c live
My boys like to say I'm the realist it gets
Sometimes I feel like Boston gets?
Maybe flip the script on some ROYGBIV
Whatever the mood, no matter what I listen to
I always do me, never do you
I'd like to know, what makes a rapper?
It might be me, but I don't think it matter

Rascal Flatts-Elizabeth Lohnmann

Rascal Flatts is my favorite country band! They have a song for every type of listener, from fast upbeat melodies like "Summer Nights" to slow meaningful songs like "Here Comes Goodbye". I love to listen to Rascal Flatt's when I am driving around town or when I am at the river with my friends.
There songs are also featured in a few movies. Rascal Flatt's biggest hit is "Life IS A Highway" which was featured in the movie "Cars". They have had numerous number one hits in the past couple of years; such as "What Hurts The Most", and "Bless The Broken Road" to name a few from the long list of hits. Their concerts are always packed or sold out no matter where they are performing.

"the best rapper alive"

Lil Wayne has to ultimately be considered the best. There are many reasons to say this, a few are his use of alliteration, metaphors, and similies to construct a track that can even blow the minds of dictionary readers. Lil Wayne uses his skill to turn the perspective of an old fashioned song in to a recreated masterpiece that shatters all negative thoughts of his skills and talents. Along with the many awards and achievements he has accomplished as a rapper improving his talents in the game. I and many others would simply label wayne as "the best"!
